How do we know that what we are doing is working? Our former students tell us its working. They say they feel that they they were very prepared for high school. We invite you to come and hear some of their stories for yourselves this Thursday evening. We have several recent graduates, who attend various local high schools, coming back to tell us about their first month of high school. This fun event will take place in the Commons at 6pm.
Here are some other suggestions to help your students balance their workload:
- Help them develop a plan for their week using newsletters and the homework calendar. Many assignments in Middle School are given with deadlines a few days out. It will be helpful to break those assignments down and plan the week out ahead of time. Be sure to include other activities.
- Students should NOT be doing more than two hours of homework a night, if they are using their time in class and are planning out their long term assignments. If your student CONSISTENTLY spends more than two hours a night on homework, please let me know.
- Check Gradelink, but not daily. Set up a time on Wednesdays and the weekend to look at grades.
- Set up alerts for you and your student form Gradelink so that if assignments are missing or late, you get an email alerting you to the problem.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Parent Teacher Conferences are in two weeks. They will take place from 4:15-8:00 pm on the 4th and 6th of October. We do not do a traditional "sign-up" for conferences. Middle School conferences are "drop-in" conferences. All of the middle school teachers will have tables in the gym, and you may visit with as many or as few of them as you would like. Conferences will be limited to ten minutes, so teachers can speak to as many parents as possible.
8th Grade Field Trip to Finance Park:
On October 5th, the 8th graders will travel to Finance Park as their culminating activity for their Junior Achievement Financial Literacy unit they have been working on in advisory. The fee is $13.50, and includes a lunch from Subway.
