Congratulations to Derek Roper and Mara Anton for being Co-Champions of the Spelling Bee last week! We wish you both much success at the District Bee in February!
VALENTINES DAY DANCE:
Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and the Party Planning Elective has been working on trying to provide the best middle school experience. After conducting a survey, they determined that a majority of middle schoolers (73%) would rather have an after school dance than a party during school. This year, they are working on planning a Valentine's formal. Save the date for Saturday, February 11 in the evening. Details are still being worked out and will be communicated as soon as they are finalized. In the meantime, we could use some parent volunteers to attend the dance. If you have the ability to volunteer your time, then please sign up for a time slot here: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0D4CAAA72AA5F49-middle1
Social Media Reminder:
Parents, please actively monitor your child's social media usage. Students are actively using a variety apps to connect socially, and the interactions are not always positive! Snapchat and Instagram are favorites. Many of your children have public profiles which anyone can see. Many of them have multiple screen names and accounts. We have seen an increase in negative online behaviors in the past several weeks, and while much of it is happening outside of school hours (sometimes very late at night/ early morning (2, 3,4 am) it is impacting social relationships here at school and is distracting from the academic focus of some students. There are ways to set up alerts so that you can see what your students is doing on social media, however, my best pieces of advice are to make sure you have all of their passwords to their phones, iPads and Chromebook and to have a place where they "turn in" electronics at night. Many students ares staying up until all hours chatting and "snapping", this is not healthy for many reasons. I am happy to help with any social media related questions or concerns. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
